These are the times I miss small children. Mind you I don't miss them often , but this is one of those times LOL
I remember the excitement of Easter morning when I was a child...I would find this wonderful big basket full of all kinds of goodies. As I got older it came down to a new outfit for church and a chocolate bunny. For my own kids I hid eggs all over the house and filled baskets with little toys, puzzles and coloring books. It was a happy day and a big food day. The family would gather around our big dining table and celebrate...That time has passed..half of that family has passed and we are far away from our children and grandchildren. Funny how life changes...We had two Easters up here with Krista and it brought back old memories. We just had our Grandson prior to Easter so we got to enjoy some laughter...But this day will never be quite the same as it once was. There will be no egg hunt and no children laughing...I miss that.
We will however share the day with friends, also separated from their kids and grand kids...so there will be laughter.
I do hope everyone enjoys this day and if you have small children, treasure the moments because they fade quickly.
Happy Easter Everyone!!!
Welcome to my Journey. I made this Blog with the hope in mind that it would help people who have decided to take the same path as I. For new comers I suggest going to the bottom right to Blog Archives and clicking on 2008, because that's where it all begins...I hope my journey inspires you to take your own.

What a week it was!!!
It has been absolutely crazy around here. Seems like we go for long dry spells where everything is the same (SSDD) and then all at once life is busy, full of highs and lows, tears and joy...It's like a big bowl of soup..one days it's almost empty and another day it's full of all sorts of stuff...
This weeks bowl was full...Rich decided I had been held captive long enough, this winter was miserable with both of us sharing one vehicle. I had meetings, functions and a business to get to and he just likes being able to get in his truck and go...Sooo we went out looking for a true 4X4, that would be a vehicle with a locking differential, something they don't seem to be making much of anymore, unless you go for a truck. There are 4X4's but not REAL ones like I need..We've tried the "wanna be's" and the all wheel...Our driveway is just to darned steep . So after much pondering about affordability and needs vs. wants...I ended up with a Jeep Liberty, one of the few Jeeps that are true 4x4's. It is perhaps the first car I have had that I designed from scratch to include everything I want in a vehicle...I didn't settle. So all in all it was a happy experience. I did love my HHR, but it isn't a winter car.
In between that adventure my Grandson paid a visit and brought his MOM LOL..He is growing up so fast and the visit was so enjoyable. he is learning to control himself better . What a pleasure to be able to enjoy his company. I never thought we'd see the day when he would go...willingly...to a sushi restaurant but he did and actually had a good time...as he put it," it was awesome!!!" and it was. They heard it was his birthday so they made a big fuss over him with a special dessert and a silk robe so he could have his picture taken for their "Wall". Needless to say he was very excited.
One day we all went "Easter" shopping, he got Rollerblades and helped me pick out stuff out for Krista...That was also a fun day. We even got to eat in Wegmans..truly an adventure for a child that doesn't eat very much (no meat at all).
My busy week left me very little time for posting here....But hopefully time management will get better. It's not like I'm not trying LOL I can actually walk in my studio...no kidding. A clean studio is the sign of a sick mind...Guess I'm as healthy as you could hope for LOL It will never be totally organized, I'm too busy for that, but it is Nice to know where stuff is.
Gosh I think back to a few years ago when all of this activity would have been impossible and now...well life is very exciting.
Marilynn and I are getting ready for our Paducah pilgrimage LOL It is a much needed break for both of us...It's been one helluva year.
For those of you who have had the same trouble with eggs as I have (for my WL group) mainly we don't tolerate them. I used egg beaters and what ever they have removed is what made me sick because I am now able to look forward to my scrabbled eggs once again...Thanks to my friend Debbie, I can even make them right LOL

Missing Him
The days have been very busy since Uncle Tom died. Lots to do, but in the quiet moments I find myself thinking about how brief life really is. How unfair that life is so short, which is why I find it so very easy to embrace the fact that there is an even a greater journey beyond this life.
Still, as I work, sew, cook etc. I find myself looking back at better times. My dad and his brothers were indeed very funny and filled my life with a great deal of joy and laughter. For that I am very grateful... As I sat yesterday, taking apart the border of a small quilt ( I made a boo boo) The following lines floated through my mind...so I wrote them down:
There was gladness in my heart to see you smile and
to see the light in your eyes when you saw me.
Then sadness when there was no beat, no breath, just quiet
for a moment......
My life is richer, the world is brighter, hearts were lightened
by your presence...
if only for a moment.
For generations you will live on and on in yours, theirs and theirs to follow.
They will remember your smile, the joy you brought and the laughter..
Ah yes the laughter..
If only for a moment
Life is but a moment in time, but hearts are touched,
lives are enhanced and made richer by love and laughter.
I celebrate you and all that you gave. I thank you
for being a part of my life
If only for a moment....

A Star has fallen from my sky
On March 20th at 1:47 pm the heart of one of Gods most greatest children, stopped beating.
There is no easy way, no short way to sum up the life of this man. He started with nothing, literally..born into a poor family, always meeting life's struggles with a smile and sense of humor. I can never recall my Uncle Tom not finding a reason to smile (perhaps that's where I get it from) Even at his Mothers funeral, he could find reason for laughter in the memories he shared.
I watched this man endure and continue to smile in worst of times...the loss of family, the loss of children and grandchildren. It was my privilege to be his niece (his first niece), he had a way of making everyone he loved feel like the ONLY one he loved.
I watched my Uncle, with no education, create a business, raise 4 children, get involved in politics and still manage to be respected by both sides LOL He found jobs for people out of work and if he couldn't find them, he created them...I could write a book about all the ways this man made this planet a better place simply because he was here.
I am so thankful, so very blessed that I had the opportunity to be with my Uncle in his final hours. I am so thankful that I meant enough to his family to want me there..The hospital was in awe at the crowd of "immediate" family and never said a word to try and discourage us.
When I came through the door my uncles face beamed with excitement, he smiled, he kissed me and I don't know who was happier that he had waited..me or him. he was also excited to see Rich and I cried along with the rest of the family when he looked into his eyes and mouthed "Please help me". For 76 days my Uncle was kept alive on a ventilator and for 76 days he made staff, doctors and family laugh for every one of those days.
Meanwhile in another hospital was a nephew who was dying of liver failure...I come from a family of "givers" and that became very obvious when all the pain and tears were set aside and the discussion of letting my Uncle help Paul live was presented. It was fully agreed that if possible my Uncles liver would be used to save Paul's life..How many families could do that? How many would even think beyond their own grief to consider it ? We thought perhaps the age (80 years) would be a factor...when in fact medication was a strong factor and the law saying my uncle was still using his organ was the determining factor...He wasn't brain dead.
It was at that point that the choice was made to shut down the ventilator and let him go home to God and his brothers, mother and all who went before him. He deserved that peace, the family deserved to get on with their lives. Lives had been put on hold for 76 days, shifts were taken so he would never be alone. This BEAR of a man deserved to be at peace and so we sat and watched this wonderful, generous, loving man takes his last , peaceful breath and quietly slip into Gods hands.
Yes there were tears, but not for him...for the loss of him because he will be severely missed by all he touched. My Aunt found it incredible that doctors, nurses, everyone who came in contact with him, showed up at his funeral. The crowd was unbelievable, miles and miles of cars, he was truly loved. There were definitely smiles when the head of the republican Committee stood side by side with the head of the Democrat Committee...even in death he had a way of making peace .
One of the last things Rich said to him was "Behave yourself in heaven and don't go making deals" (something my Uncle was known for..he could sell you the Brooklyn Bridge twice)
So on a happier note, when Paul's wife showed up at Toms funeral everyone wanted to know why she was there and not at the hospital with Paul. Her answer lightened the mood to shouts of joy...
"Because Paul is in surgery getting a new liver "...we were all thinking the same thing I'm sure...Uncle Tom was indeed still making deals...even with God.
AS each brother died, my Uncle took over as mentor and father to the children left behind. He was a father to ALL of us(20 in all) and someone we all knew we could turn to in a time of trouble. He was living breathing proof that in this life, it really doesn't matter how much education you have, how much money you have or where you come from (background) What truly matters is how you embrace life and treat those who cross your path. There is very little grief connected to this passing because there are so many memories, so much laughter, so many stories connected to his life and tears are the last thing he would want to see from any of us. He would want us to celebrate not what he WAS, but what he is in all of us...There lies the difference between mourning our own loss and celebrating the life of another...I will Miss you Uncle Tom, but you will be celebrated for many years to come, by many people, and for that I am over joyed.

Happy ST. Patricks Day
Time just has a way of flying by..I started making cards for some special people, then Blizzy died, the business got crazy and I lost my mind (what little I had left) so friends BD's got forgotten and special St Pats day wishes did not go out in time...such is my life.
I've promised myself I'd stop agonizing over the little things I just don't seem to fit into my life and start dwelling on all that I DO manage to fit into my life...but Friends and special wishes are very important to me, so I can't help but feel bad when I don't get all that I'd like to...done.
I know there are people who use the phrase "I think of you often", as just something to say...but I can honestly say that during the day, even while I am busy, people float in and out of my mind...Some of my Lizzies (they have no idea how much I miss them), special friends whose lives also seem to have gotten WAY too busy and very special friends That I seldom see any more but truly think of almost every day. I sit in a room full of reminders. As some of you know I find it difficult to dispose of things I deem precious...little things sent to me by friends...pin's, magnets, bits of fabric..it all has special meaning to me...heck, I've got this years BD cards hanging all over the place...Why? They will eventually come down but they make me feel good. Some of those cards are from people I've never met...yet they took the time to remember me, when closer friends hadn't. I'm not very good at remembering either, although I'd like to get more organized and remember each and every special person in my life...it just hasn't happened, and I doubt at this stage of my life ,if it ever will.
I really do not even get much time of the computer...if I did I could at least send messages that way..When did life get so darned busy...Aren't we supposed to slow up when we hit a certain age? What exactly is that age ?
For those of you reading this today...What the hell are you doing here when you should be celebrating??? Thanks for being here and know that I'll probably think of you today....Happy St. Patricks Day !!!

Rainbow Bridge
I am very sad today. Our beloved Blizzy went to Rainbow Bridge yesterday. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the trauma of being recued from the snow, she has been fine...well as fine as she was before that event anyway.
Blizzy came to us 8 years ago. I wasn't going to take her when I took my other ones because she appeared to be sickly, very bony and not well looking. The guy selling the goats assured me that she was fine, but threw her in for free, just so I'd take her, since I was buying her daughter, Oreo. I asked how old Blizzy was then and he said "about 14...or so" he wasn't real sure, but she was one of his first. She flourished in her new home, her hair got nicer looking, her body filled out (that's her in the picture with Emma) She outlived all the goats save Oreo. She loved the horses and became Reds best friend. The children all loved her because she was so gentle and loving. She slowed down this past year and although she seemed well enough, she just wasn't herself. She spent a lot of time gazing off into the distance...I often wondered what she saw...perhaps the Rainbow Bridge, who knows.
I love my animals dearly, they mean more to me then most people...they certainly can be trusted more...They will never betray you and their love is unconditional.
I know in my heart that I gave Bilzzy a new lease on life by loving her and giving her excellent care...but she will be missed. Even hard ass Rich had tears in his eyes as he dug her grave with the backhoe.
There is human suffering everywhere these days...Haiti, Chile..... all over the world people are dying...so in the Big picture Blizzy's death is insignificant...heck, I'm sure most of her relatives were eaten...but she was my pet, a living, breathing soul that will be terribly missed by those of us who loved her....in spite of the fact that she was "just a goat".

Helping Friends
Now some people will tell you "they are only animals, they can't think"...I beg to differ.
Yes we do tend to humanize our animals and often give them more credit for thought processes then they deserve. However, one animal knows when another is upset, scared , hurt etc. Some are opportunist, like the coyote and will take advantage of a sick or hurt animal, others will walk away as if they didn't care....although I think there is a reason why some animals seem distant to others....Funny, animals are not much different then humans in that respect are they?
Yesterday I witnessed something quite incredible and I'd like to share it.
I have two pygmy goats left, a mom (Blizzy) and a daughter (Oreo) they live with my two horses Red a male and Emma a female. Yesterday they all seemed to want to go out even though the snow was pretty deep in places...so I let them. AS I was cleaning the barn I heard Oreo bleating in her panic voice, which usually means she can't see her Mom. I ran to the door and I see Blizzy stuck in a snow drift way down in the pasture. The horses were with her, Oreo was up near me and seemed to know she was too short to go join her Mom. The two horses stayed close and seemed to comfort Blizzy, I watched helplessly, trying to figure out what the heck I could do to help. Suddenly the two horses looked at each other, as if in agreement and they each took a side and literally lifted Blizzy from the snow drift using their heads, giving a little push to set her in a place she could walk. Then as if on cue they chased her up toward me. They stopped, she didn't, but alas, before she made it to where I was she was stuck again...Poor little thing is so short, it doesn't take much. As I started to walk down toward her I yelled at the two horses to "Come help me!", never thinking they would...Before I could get to Blizzy , Emma came running through the snow, head down, lifted Blizzy's butt end up and pushed... What I would not have given for a camera.
I know how it feels to need help, which is probably why I give it so freely. Yes I have been burned, unfortunately not by strangers I have helped but by family and people I have cared about...but still I help. It makes me feel good inside when I know I can tell someone something that will help change their world...or a little part of it. When I can share what I have with someone that has less...knowing they will pay it forward.
I have observed many times, Oreo butting her Mom out of the way because she wants to eat her food, or does not want her Mom to have a treat..I used to wonder why she was so mean and why Blizzy allowed it...But yesterday I saw the caring side of Oreo..she was really upset that her Mom was stuck..Just like there are two sides to every story, two sides to every human being, there are also two sides to animals and they do in fact "Think", perhaps not on our level...but they do think and it seems to me they are capable of some type of reasoning...How else would they have known to lift her, instead of push her?
I've been an animal fan all my life and I have many stories...but just when I think I've seen it all...I witness something incredible and I wanted to share it with you....
